Reliability for the Cloud
While the Cloud is a dominant topic for discussion these days, little is being said about reliability. Can you achieve reliability in the Cloud? In a way yes -- caching systems such as Terracotta, Gemstone and Oracle's Coherence offer a fail-safe mode for availability of data in the form of caches that ensures there is a live copy of data stored should a node go down. All is fine if you are working with a single database, and are processing such things as web requests in the cache. But not all situations fall into that profile. Read this blog post by Atomikos CTO Guy Pardon discussing how reliability should be addressed if things change.
